Art Director

Mako Games is currently seeking an Art Director to develop cutting-edge motion control games for Natal. The position is full time, on-site at our Stamford, Connecticut office.
An Art Director is a highly capable individual with deep experience in many of the artistic aspects of game development. An Art Director mentors other artists, lends expertise in company-wide artistic direction, and seeks to improve artistic processes across the company.
The Art Director is responsible for setting the visual direction for the project and communicating that vision to a staff of internal and external artists. This is a hand’s on position. The Art Director will be splitting time between production and visual direction tasks.
Responsibilities:
• Drive the creative vision for the look and feel of the project
• Develop art style and reference guides for the team
• Review content for consistency with art style and provide clear feedback
• Define roles, screen candidates to help build out the art team
• Work with the production team to build the art schedule for the project
• Encourage the creative development and contribution of each staff member
• Provide leadership to help resolve complex design challenges
• Work with the production team to source and manage external contract resources to supplement internal art resources
• Motivate and mentor the artists on the art team in best processes, procedures, and skills pertaining to production
• Contribute to a collaborative environment with all disciplines, including design and engineering
• Manage and contribute to the UI design and art creation
Qualifications:
• Prior experience as an Art Director and UI designer
• 8+ years professional experience as an artist in the games industry
• At least 1 shipped game title on next-gen consoles
• BA in art-related field
• 3+ years management experience
• Conceptual art, 2D and 3D art production skills
• Strong communication skills
• Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Maya (or equivalents)
• Experience working with outsourced art teams and art integration
• Passion for gaming and what makes them tick
Plusses:
• Experience with Natural Motion’s Morpheme engine is a major plus
• Experience with Emergent's Gamebryo engine is a major plus
