Build Engineer

The Build Engineer is a key part of the Studio Operations team. Primary responsibilities include creating, testing, and delivering high quality builds to be published both by internal teams and external partners; contributing to the creation and extension of team processes; documenting builds created and other tasks performed; and clearly communicating results to a variety of recipients. The position will be responsible for all shared continuous integration infrastructure for PopCap’s game studio with a particular focus on automated builds and deployment. Extensive cross-group interaction is required including working with developers, testers, leads, and managers, as well as other groups of individuals who will often have conflicting goals, schedules, and demands. The position will be required to identify, empower, and evangelize best practices across the studio.
Responsibilities:
Create, test, and maintain CI infrastructure
Create, test, and maintain multiple game builds each week for PopCap’s production social games
Update deployment scripts and maintain application configurations as needed
Manage and maintain documentation of infrastructure requirements, abilities, and usage
Minimize build and deployment related downtime by ensuring build quality and designing robust practices and validation
Communicate and document status of multiple simultaneous projects
Identify and escalate critical issues
Contribute strong ideas to and feedback about the Release Management team’s processes and systems
Provide feedback on and oversight of source code management standards, continuous integration procedures, unit and smoke tests, and deployment pipelines
Additional special projects when assigned
Required Skills:
2+ years experience in a CI-focused position
5+ years industry experience, online services or casual games preferred
Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people
Strong familiarity with source code management; Perforce preferred
Highly organized and able to meet strict deadlines with minimal supervision
Able to switch tasks fluidly in response to rapidly changing requirements
Detail-oriented, flexible, adaptable, and a quick learner
Self-motivated and self-driven with the discipline to complete tasks independently
Familiarity with Perl and C++ preferred
Education and/or Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
