Quality Assurance Technicians, or Testers, perform a vital role in game development, testing, tuning, debugging, and suggesting detailed refinements that lead to higher quality and better playability of the finished game. The job involves playing (i.e., testing) the game in a systematic way, analyzing the game’s performance against the designer’s intentions, identifying problems, and suggesting improvements. In effect, they act as the game’s first audience, reporting on playability and identifying any aspects which could be improved. Testers are responsible for assuring quality in the final product and for finding flaws in a game before it goes public.

Main Purpose of the Role

• Majority of time in peak is spent testing software. Offpeak focus is analyzing and improving specific test plans.
• Develop and direct technical compliance testing procedures for the assigned Console Manufacturer, working with key stakeholders to ensure that all EA products meet the necessary internal and 1st party requirements before release.
• Take a leadership position in establishing and communicating best-practice in relation to compliance issues and associated procedures.
• Deliver defined Compliance / Network specialist test procedures and execute software testing experience.
• Assign test cases, track test hours, review concerns and monitor overall testing progress of area of expertise on all titles.
• Work with key stakeholders to ensure that Compliance / Network Test Scripts are defined and shared across all Certification and QA test teams and answer queries from game teams – in order to ensure EA products meet the necessary internal and 1st party requirements before release.
• Provide input into procedural testing documentation used within all Certification test functions, WWS QA and LT, ensuring they are accurate and complete at all times.
• Participate in new testing initiatives and services, partnering and sharing knowledge across EA where applicable.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Use necessary game experience and specialist skill set to proactively find and reproduce concerns in software and document these in a clear, detailed and objective manner.
• Receive priorities from Project Lead / Hub Manager and help disseminate test directions to a small group of testers.
• Review DevTrack Concerns reported by assigned testers, consider the level of severity and publish/respond to issues where required.
• Create, Maintain and Update: Technical Compliance / Online Checklists / Submissions Specialists and testing procedures; EA Glossaries; plus testing documentation used internally and/or published to other groups within EA.
• Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft/Online: Maintain high level of understanding of all internal and 1st party requirements relating to the hardware platform(s); monitor 1st party developer sites and other information sources relating to the specified game platform(s) to ensure test cases employed during Certification comply with 1st party standards.
• Work closely with other Compliance / Online Test Teams within EA, partner with internal test groups on initiatives.
• Involved in Tester Recruitment, Training, Coaching and Support. Also assist testers to understand the testing/certification process, assign tasks ensuring these are completed to specification; assist them to manage concerns; coach and provide individual feedback; act on suggestions, question, complaints or problems.
• Participate in the technical review of all printed packs and documentation where applicable.
• Interact occasionally with studio teams to verify concerns where necessary.
• Compile and publish technical compliance / online improvements based on the results of the testing process, within the timeframe specified. Interact with studio teams as appropriate.
• Communicate pertinent information relating to 1st party requirements / online / submissions requirements and product-related issues to EA Certification Tech Ops.
• Take responsibility for the equipment and software security in assigned Division.
• Provide key contributions to at least one of the EA Cert Working Groups plus take an active role in the Certification Roadmap initiatives..

Special Considerations

EA Certification is a dynamic area where there are peak periods of activity and therefore the work load and the make-up of teams vary. Therefore it is necessary that the incumbent has past experience of working in a team environment of constant change. This also requires a flexible approach to working hours.

Skills and Knowledge Required

• Demonstrate ability to work effectively within a team, or alone when necessary.
• In-depth understanding of the technical requirements / online requirements and tools pertaining to at least one console platform.
• Attention to detail and methodical working practices.

• Excellent written and oral skills.
• Must be willing to take responsibility for their own actions and those of the Certification Testers assigned to them.
• Ability to work under pressure maintaining attention to detail
• Communicate in a clear and concise manner
• Skills/qualifications in non-English languages are beneficial
• Network & Online Services: 1-2 Years of Online Testing Experience

Experience Required
