Experienced Senior Designer
My client is a privately owned Limited Company that was formed in 2007 to provide specialist services to games developers and publishers. They currently have several PlayStation 3 exclusive titles in development and have more projects lined up for the near future.

They are currently looking for a highly experienced senior designer with a solid portfolio of published games and the drive and enthusiasm to create new and innovative concepts and games, and see them through to completion.

The successful candidate will be expected to jump in and create imaginative, new and different experiences, to craft innovative game play experiences with flair.

• You will be responsible for conceiving, documenting and directing the design of an original and innovative game.
• You need to be creative and innovative in the way you think and design, and be able to use deploy those skills to create truly exciting and impressive material, imbuing your designs with a unique vision.
• You must be aware of the games market and with the current state-of-the-art in game design across a wide range of genres. You must be capable of analyzing and critiquing game designs and using that analysis to inform your own design decisions.
• My client takes a very collaborative approach so you’ll need to like mucking in; it’s a real team effort. This position requires you to work closely with the whole team and form a strong leadership group with the other senior stakeholders on a project, programmers and artists.
• It’s a hands on role, so aside from being the vision holder, you’ll need to roll up your sleeves and get stuck into whatever design tasks need to get done, use the tools, create prototypes, tune the game play and guide the team!

Essential Skills & Experience

• This position requires a high degree of creativity. You will be required to work with the team to form a "vision" of the game experience and use that vision to inform your design decisions.
• An important part of the role is communicating the vision clearly and concisely to your fellow team members and ensuring that everyone has a clear and specific mandate for their work. You must also provide a receptive ear so that other team members, the studio exec and our clients can provide input on the game design.
• You need great hands on design skills, the ability to create and iterate game concepts, game play mechanics, characters, stories, levels & play spaces and craft exiting experiences, using a fresh approach to game features and with innovative design ideas.
• The project has a heavy focus on narrative therefore experience of interactive storytelling is essential.
• You have the ability to pitch game designs and ideas, to create innovate and commercially aware concepts, to formulate and express a compelling experience and sell that to the studio team!
• Above all we are looking for somebody with enthusiasm, passion and the desire to create the best game experience possible.
• Solid experience in a design leadership or creative direction position, working on at least one published game in that role.
• Demonstrable practical design ability - prototypes, published material and the use of scripting languages and editing tools

You also need to be:

• Flexible and open-minded
• Determined and self-motivated
• Prepared to rise to a challenge
• Always striving for quality
• Creative and innovative
