Gameplay and UX Programmer

Maxis is seeking an experienced Gameplay Engineer to join our team in Emeryville, CA. In this role, you will be working with a highly talented and experienced team on an upcoming triple-A simulation style game.

Gameplay and UX Programmer

Duties
* Work closely with producers, artists, and designers in a collaborative, small team environment
* Design, implement, and retain ownership of critical game play and UI systems
* Support, enhance and extend proprietary user interface development tools, as needed
* Create workflows for artists or designers to tune and manage data-driven game play systems
* Be able to profile and optimize code to hit performance targets
* Test and document new features and systems

Requirements
* Degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or related field
* 3+ years of JavaScript/HTML/CSS development/programming experience
* Solid C/C++ programming skills and data structures, logic, and algorithm skills
* 3+ years of professional game development experience, or equivalent
* Willingness to contribute to many areas of game development
* Demonstrated experience and interest in creating game play and UI systems

Pluses
* Experience with data visualization or implementing charts/graphs
* Knack for usability and accessibility
* A deep knowledge of and a passion for playing videogames
* Understanding of simulated systems and emergent behavior
* Prior work on high performance simulation of large numbers of objects
