Junior to Senior Backend Web Developer required - Games Studio - Midlands
My established client are working on a variety of very exciting game projects that need to use large social and web-based services. We’re looking for a driven and experienced backend web developer to establish the team/s that will create, deploy and maintain these systems across the whole company.

Extending and maintaining the infrastructure of the in-house portal, ensuring the correct balance is struck between efficiency, security, durability and scalability as the site increases in size and moves into a fully Live and public environment.

Directly reporting to:
Lead backend Web Developer

Duties:
•You will be responsible for managing the delivery of back end development components for the Company’s websites and web applications
•Ensuring that the back-end implementations are robust, extensible and scalable.
•Monitoring, administering and reporting on online activity and statistics
•The right applicant will play a key role in the evolution of the Company’s sites and web applications

Essentials:
•Advanced knowledge of Java and experience of developing maintainable, scalable and robust J2EE applications
•Strong experience with X/HTML, CSS and JavaScript/AJAX
•Demonstrable experience of deploying to and configuring Apache Tomcat and Apache HTTPD running on Linux-based operating systems
•A thorough understanding and proven implementations of secure, scalable and performant J2EE
•Proven experience working with and developing a Continuous Integration methodology; experience with Hudson and Maven preferable
•Strong understanding of web standards, accessibility and usability
•Able to work with a variety of web APIs (particularly RESTful, JSON, XML-RPC) and able to use disparate technologies to deliver products rapidly
•Ensure coding standards and development processes are adhered to
•Excellent knowledge of relational databases (awareness of NoSQL would be beneficial)
•Extensive knowledge of the web environment.
•Good personal organisational skills.

Beneficial Qualities:
•Experience of creating loosely-coupled web applications using Spring and Hibernate
•Knowledge of SEO/SEM practices in order to improve site optimisation and performance
•Experience of cloud-based server solutions, such as AWS, Google AppEngine, Rackspace
•Experience of creating community-driven web applications would be beneficial
•A knowledge of Linux scripting would be useful
•Working knowledge of PHP and LAMP stack
•Experience of server hosting, management and configuration
•The successful candidate should have excellent proven experience of building websites on both the front and back end
•Professional attitude and work ethic
•Thorough approach to problem solving and able to function independently when required
•Needs to be comfortable working to deadlines
•Attention to detail is essential and all tasks must be carried out to the highest standard
•A willingness and ability to learn is essential
