Lead Game Designer
My client is one of the UK's most prolific and secure independent game developers. Since their inception in 2003, they've had a string of successful titles across all gaming platforms for partners that include SEGA, Codemasters, Sony, EA, BBC, Konami and many more.
They are currently working on a number of unannounced but extraordinarily exciting AAA games across all formats and are looking for a Lead Game Designer with the drive, passion and ambition that will help them make those games the best they can be.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overall efforts of the game design department including systems such as user interface, AI, puzzle, inventory, multiplayer, etc. You will assist in performance management and conflict resolution within the department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee the creation and implementation of game systems
• Supervise the creation and maintenance of detailed game system documentation
• Review, tweak and balance game systems
• Define story and character related documents such as character biography, dialogue, location background and plot points etc. as required
• Accurately assess the time required for assigned tasks for game designers
• Troubleshooting design issues from a creative and technical standpoint
• Create new game pitches and present them as/when required
• Collaborating with the design team to develop and enhance gameplay as well as with the engineering team to enhance the development of tools and processes used in the implementation of game systems
• Provide constructive feedback on game systems
• Participate in performance management and conflict resolution
Skills/Experience Required
• Extensive design experience required on 2 or more shipped titles
• Proven ability to breakdown system design goals into individual components.
• Ability to present ideas to a variety of audiences, both technical and non-technical in a succinct manner.
• Excellent sense of variables, logic and problem solving
• Excellent understanding of game trends both past and present
• Strong management/leadership skills
Demonstrated Ability To:
• Work well/respond to pressure
• Communicate effectively within a large group and multiple project environment
• Think critically, and apply analytical skills in resolving complex issues
• Quickly master proprietary tools and development processes
• To take direction and criticism
• Meet deadlines designated for team projects
• Professionalism and the ability to function well within a team
• Be self motivated
