Microsoft Studios’ Kids and Lifestyles Entertainment (KALE) organization is at the forefront of developing new interactive entertainment experiences that appeal to all members of the family across all devices, led from the living room, powered by the cloud. To deliver on this vision, we are building a team to create experiences which blur the line between traditional linear video content and interactive Kinect experiences. You will be responsible for the creation of new technology as well as delivering a platform and tool set that can be used to deliver multiple entertainment products from high profile IP partners in a flexible, rapid, and low cost way. You will be on the front lines of emerging technologies and experiences with business critical partners.


MS Studios’ KALE organization is looking for an experienced software development engineer (SDE) to join our team in a hands-on role, focused on developing flexible and extensible high quality tools, infrastructure, and foundational experience technology that innovates and expands the interactive Kinect TV space. This is a hands-on role pioneering and developing advanced technology solutions, tools, and game features & experiences. This position is a rare opportunity to develop the core technology used to create a brand new form of interactive entertainment.


As a member of Microsoft Studios’ KALE organization, you will:

- Develop implementation plans and software according to functional requirements & feature specifications

- Collaborate with designers, artists, and other programmers to deliver new experiences, tools, and features

- Consult on a regular basis with project leadership to align expectations and deliverables

- Excel at cross-functional collaboration and leadership

- Multitask between projects and teams fluidly


Qualifications:

- 5+ years of software engineering experience

- 2+ years of video game programming experience, shipping multiple titles (preferably on Xbox 360)

- Proven software design, programming, debugging, and optimization skills in C++, C#, & scripting languages (LUA)

- Proficient in developing and customizing tools and pipelines

- Experience using low level game engine, game middleware, or video playback solutions

- Passion for console and motion gaming and entertainment

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Self-motivated and drive for excellence

- Experience with Xbox LIVE or the game industry is a plus!

- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent


Bonus Qualifications:

- Experience developing in game engines such as Unity, Unreal, and Cryengine

- Experience with complex middleware such as Havok, PhysX, or OpenCV

- Designed modular technologies to support plugin functionality, features, and content

- Proficient in ASP.NET, SQL, and Web Development tools & technologies

- Low-level and hardware programming experience

- Prior work exploring and innovating new IP, genres, and product experiences

- Guided and mentored more junior engineers

- Experience with Xbox 360 TCR compliance and certification process
