Department Overview: The Global Royalty Accounting Department manages all worldwide license and development contracts pertaining to product development for all Studios, as well as, Online and EA Partners (Co-publishing and distribution). Royalty Accounting’s direct internal business partners are Studio Finance, Corporate Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis, Strategic Sales, Business Affairs and Legal. The North American Royalty Accounting Group manages over 900 contracts and approximately $1.0B in royalties.
Our mission is to affect profitable business strategy and increase the influence on license and developer agreements compilation by designing and leading effective royalty processes and by providing timely insight into royalty bearing contracts and advances risk and opportunity with respect to future releases. Critical processes owned include global monthly royalty calculations for accruals and estimated royalty rates, compilations of external licensors and developers’ statements & payments, interaction with external auditors and 3rd party licensors & developers’ auditors and business partners support.
Job Description:
A. Primary Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the accurate review, interpretation and set-up of EA Studios related development, licensing and co-publishing contracts. This includes:
o Participate on contract negotiations and reviews prior to its execution
o Interpreting contractual terms and conditions
o Document accounting treatment and ensuring proper forecast
o Setting-up & updating contracts in the Alliant Royalty System with financial obligations detail – accruals, forecast & statements
o Assessing capitalization feasibility as it pertains to EA’s Capitalization Policy
o Evaluating co-publishing contracts and reporting requirements
o Analyzing effective versus contractual royalty rates
o Calculating development expensed advance amortization, if applicable
• Ensure 100% compliance to all financial commitments and obligations. This includes:
o Prepaid advances
o Development milestone payments
o Minimum guarantees
o Monthly or quarterly royalty disbursements
o Marketing and/or sponsorship fees
o Publisher assistance
• Master on the Alliant Royalty System and be able perform administrator tasks & responsibilities
• Responsible for enhancing Royalty Accounting’s relationships with internal and external business partners as it relates to the EA Studios
• Participate in the monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes
• Assist in monthly forecasting and annual planning process for Royalties
• Support 3rd. parties licensors & developers audits
• Assist on compilation of management reporting packages & analysis
• Prepare and maintain assigned audit, tax and SEC related schedules
• Responsible for reconciliation of Prepaid Royalties and Royalty Payable Accounts
• Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and distribution of assigned Royalty Accounting reports to business partners
• Special projects as assigned, these include, but are not limited to, ad hoc reporting for internal business partners, specifically Business Affairs, EA Partners Studio, Tax, Legal and Finance.
• Participate in third party compliance review of EA Partners Studio related contracts
• Assess Royalty Accounting processes, procedures and policies on a continuous basis and make recommendations where appropriate for process improvements
B. Education and Work Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• CPA or MBA preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experiences (prior exposure to Royalty Accounting a plus)
• E-Commerce experience a plus
C. Other Requirements:
• Strong database and desktop application (preferably Oracle and MS Office)
• Highly motivated
• Detail oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong ability to work independently as well as to support team activities
• Good presentation skills
