EA began to move toward direct distribution of digital games and services with the acquisition of several popular online gaming sites and products like Pogo.com, Playfish, PopCap Games and the launch of Origin, an online service to sell downloadable games directly to consumers. At present, EA is in the process of transforming its product delivery strategy by building out its online and mobile gaming capabilities in order to offer its content across multiple platforms. Technology and engineering will be critical factors in creating a new, world class experience for the company’s industry leading content. The CTO and his team will build and evangelize the cross-platform infrastructure to connect EA’s consumers with the games and online communities of their choice without restrictions of time and place.
The Role
Reporting to EA’s Chief Technology Officer, the Vice President, Engineering will lead a large team of developers, testers and operational professionals while leveraging expanded networks of engineering resources across multiple game development platforms. The VP, Engineering will work with the CTO to support EA’s Digital content strategy through the creation of a digital platform to power EA’s gaming universe. Specifically, s/he will have end-to-end development responsibility for commerce, shared gaming technologies, and predictive analytics/user data used to personalize gaming experiences. This person must be a world class engineer with a passion for running engineering deliverables and should have worked with internet technologies of scale.
Specifically, the VP, Engineering will:
• Create a best-in-class engineering environment within EA, ultimately helping the company to become a destination for top tier technical talent in the marketplace
• Partner with the CTO to help deliver a flexible, multi-platform product agenda as established by the executive team and line leadership
• Work closely with EA’s leadership across divisions to define and implement an integrated product strategy, building a common digital platform to support a diverse and evolving offering
• Design and implement an effective project management process to support EA’s aggressive delivery and growth goals
• Incorporate and develop new technologies to encourage innovation across EA with a focus on improved product development
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have significant and world class engineering experience with a track record of working with web platforms of scale. S/he should have experience building a direct-to-consumer technology capability and platform to support high volume and highly reliable interactive business operations. The VP, Engineering will have experience leading change initiatives within large, complex, global environments. This individual must balance “hands-on” technology expertise with the ability to lead global teams. The successful candidate will have experience working in a high technology environment (e.g., online services, software, web technologies). Most importantly, the VP, Engineering will embrace working within a highly creative, technology enabled atmosphere in which fun and entertainment remain the central themes. This person should have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field; an advanced engineering degree is strongly preferred.
