We are currently seeking a World Modeler/Artist to join the exciting new PopCap team in Burnaby.

What skills does EA look for??

A World/Environment Modeler must have a passion for building new and innovative worlds. Their portfolio must demonstrate the following:
• An ability to think in 3D with a clear understanding of how models fit within gameplay
• Good understanding of and experience with level/scene management and world creation
• Drawings/sketches that display basic skills as well as any modeling and texture work related to objects, buildings, terrain, etc.
• Excellent sense of form, weight (mass), and volume
• Good use of light and shadow
• Breadth of artistic styles
• An understanding of optimization
• Excellent sense of scale and level of finish
• Skilled with 3D Software such as Maya

• Create, model, UV, and texture world objects to a high level of aesthetic quality while creating stylized versions of real world objects
• Working closely with level designers to help generate gameplay ideas while building out scenes and worlds
• Participate in meetings with producers, designers, engineers and animators to understand the functional requirements and constraints of world objects and how they need to be created.
• Participate in reviews with the Art Director to improve aesthetic consistency and overall look.
• Should be knowledgeable and comfortable in the creation and use of normal maps, specular maps, and generating AO maps.
• Trouble shoot and problem solve assets that are not functioning properly in game. Coordinate with animators and engineers to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
• Provide project management team with accurate estimates for scheduling work and deadlines
• Be able to come up with concepts and provide basic concept art for some objects in conjunction with the Art Director.

• Good communication skills (Verbal & Visual) - to work effectively with producers, designers, engineers as well as other artists.
• Strong technical abilities and understanding of game development pipelines
• Be able to follow art direction and work from concept art when available
• Creative thinker and problem solver that can work independently
• Well organized and able to commit to and meet deadlines.
• Experience or interest in architecture, landscape architecture and interior design is a plus
• A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:
- Excellent sense of Scale and Composition
- Excellent modeling and texturing skills on props, objects, and environments
- Strong aesthetic sensitivity to lighting for form and shadow
- Excellent sense of scale and level of finish
- Excellent sense of form, weight (mass), and volume
- Wide breadth of artistic styles
- Experience working with a cartoon style and tone
- Models that show the ability to create low-mid poly models consistently
• Experience with proprietary EA technologies is a plus
• Understanding of the Level Design process is a plus
